Browse Truck Storage by Region
Auckland
3 cities
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and its commercial engine. The urban sprawl that stretches from Rodney to the Manukau Harbour means most households are working with limited section sizes and no room for a second vehicle, a boat, or a caravan. Demand for off-site storage has grown steadily with the city's population. Whether you have a spare garage in Remuera or a side paddock in Kumeu, StorageFinder makes it easy to connect with people who need exactly that space.
Wellington
3 cities
Wellington's hilly terrain and compact sections leave little room for anything beyond a car. Residents across the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti Coast, and the city itself regularly look for secure off-site space for boats, campervans, and trailers. The region's strong public service workforce and outdoor culture mean demand for vehicle and recreational-equipment storage is consistent year-round. A driveway or covered bay here goes a long way.
Canterbury
1 city
The Canterbury Plains stretch wide, but within Christchurch and its satellite towns, residential sections are being subdivided at pace. Post-earthquake rebuilds have produced a generation of modern, compact homes, many without a garage. The region's proximity to the Southern Alps makes caravan and bike storage especially popular, with owners wanting secure options close to home during the off-season.
Waikato
2 cities
The Waikato is New Zealand's agricultural heartland, where large rural properties sit alongside a fast-growing Hamilton city fringe. That mix creates real storage opportunity: rural landowners with underused sheds and garages, and urban residents without adequate space for boats or trailers. The region's many lakes and the proximity to the Coromandel make boat storage a year-round need.
Bay of Plenty
2 cities
The Bay of Plenty lives up to its name. Tauranga is one of New Zealand's fastest-growing cities, and with that growth comes a squeeze on residential space. The region's boating culture is strong. Tauranga Harbour and the broader Bay see significant recreational use from spring through autumn. Secure, affordable boat and caravan storage close to the water is consistently in demand.
Otago
2 cities
Otago spans everything from Dunedin's Victorian streetscapes to Queenstown's mountain resort villages. The tourism economy around Queenstown generates strong demand for campervan and trailer storage among both locals and seasonal workers. In Dunedin, a student-heavy population and older housing stock mean garages and driveways are at a premium. Both ends of the region have storage needs that peer-to-peer space can solve.
Manawatū-Whanganui
1 city
Palmerston North anchors this central North Island region as a university and service city. Households here are practical and budget-conscious, and many run trailers, small boats, or campervans that need somewhere to live between uses. The region's rural surrounds mean there are people with ample space on their properties who can offer real value to urban storers.
Hawke's Bay
2 cities
Hawke's Bay is sun-drenched and lifestyle-focused. The region's art deco towns, orchards, and coastline attract a relaxed, outdoors-oriented population that runs boats, jet skis, and caravans regularly. Napier and Hastings are compact cities where off-street storage space is genuinely hard to find. Connecting local hosts with people who need seasonal vehicle storage is a natural fit here.
Northland
1 city
Northland is New Zealand's boating heartland. The Bay of Islands, Kaipara Harbour, and the Hokianga offer some of the country's best on-water experiences, which means a significant number of households maintain trailerboats, launches, and jet skis that need secure storage during the off-season. Whangārei is the region's hub, and its residents face the same suburban space constraints as any growing New Zealand city.
Nelson-Tasman
1 city
Nelson-Tasman enjoys the most sunshine hours in New Zealand, and the lifestyle reflects it. Caravans, campervans, kayaks, and trailerboats are a common sight, and a common storage problem. The region attracts retirees and lifestyle-block owners who often have space to share, as well as urban Nelson residents without garages who need somewhere reliable for their recreational gear.

Tips for Storing Your Truck
- 1
Check access hours
Some yards offer 24/7 access while others have set hours. Make sure the yard’s schedule lines up with your haul times, especially if you’re doing early morning or late night runs.
- 2
Inspect the surface
Hardstand or compacted gravel is best for heavy trucks. Avoid soft ground that can sink under a loaded semi, especially after rain.
- 3
Ask about security
Fencing, CCTV, lighting and locked gates all matter. Check the listing photos and ask the host directly about their security setup.
- 4
Confirm turning room
B-doubles and long semis need plenty of room to turn. Check the yard dimensions and ask the host if they’ve accommodated similar rigs before.
- 5
Sort your insurance
Most yards require your truck to be insured while stored. Check your existing policy covers yard storage, and ask the host about their own coverage.
